Macronix was federally incorporated in Canada in 1986 to complete and operate the Pulsed Power (1 MJ, 1 TW) facility of the National Research Council of Canada on Montreal Road, Ottawa, and to provide consultancy to industry and the government. Founding directors included Professor Peter Silvester, Head of the Electrical Engineering Department at McGill University, and Dr. Rajendra Gupta, Senior Research Officer at the National Research Council, who was also a visiting professor at McGill at that time. NRC provided its staff and initial funding for the operation of the facility and McGill provided the graduate students to do frontier research using it. One student obtained a master’s degree and another student obtained a Ph.D. degree under Dr. Gupta, both from McGill, for their work done at the facility. The research continued on the facility five years term for the use of the facility by Macronix. During the course of this work multiple research papers were published.
Macronix also provided consulting to industry and government in the field of finite element modelling of electrical and magneto-hydrodynamics devices in the eighties and nineties. More recently the focus has been on process and product development, quality assurance, database development, IT security, etc.
The company’s consulting staff has over 100 years of cumulative research, teaching, and consulting experience in diversified fields with close to 100 publication, including 15 patents, and possess Ph.D. and Master’s degrees and other advanced qualifications in science and engineering.
